Rate My LinkedIn Account

There has been a lot of talk about LinkedIn this semester in CS400Y.

For something hailed as the Facebook as the working world, maintaining and developing your LinkedIn profile can feel like a lot of the time. We've seen so many posts, presentations, and articles about how to "hack" or improve your participation on the platform, without a lot of hands-on tutelage.

So, I thought I'd be the one to stick my neck out and ask you guys to rate my LinkedIn profile, using what we've talked about this semester. As a disclaimer, I'm fairly new to this platform (I actually signed up because of this class), and I don't feel like I really "get it" yet. This is an opportunity for us to see where we're all at with this kind of tool and learn from one another.

Feel free to post your comments, suggestion, and personal profiles in the comments, as well connect with myself and others.

  1. Hey,

So I believe that Linkedin still has the all star profile, make sure you have everything to hit that level. In terms of your profile, make sure you put more experience related to the job you want to apply to. I would also add skills that you would want to be recommended for. I think once you see more profiles and search some tips, you can make more changes according to your industry.

Overall it's good, you can also check out my profile if you wish and provide feedback : https://www.linkedin.com/in/shinjnisharma/

  2. I am no professional when it comes to developing a LinkedIn page, but from my own experience, and from the things I have learned from CS400Y, I think you are off to a great start! One thing I would suggest is to maybe put a link to one of the website, or graphic design pieces you have created from your time at Radio Laurier. This will show employers your hard transferable skills in the area of integrated media!

  3. I think your profile looks great so far, Meaghan! One thing I would recommend is that you expand a bit more on your work experiences. In my opinion, it doesn't need to perfectly match your resume, although this is up for debate as we saw from Gershon's research. I like to begin each experience description with a short 2-3 sentence statement about the organization or what I did and then a few point-form statements about what I accomplished there, or what my responsibilities were (like I would on my resume).
