I enjoy the point you brought up here with where we should draw the line when trying to make our business more innovative. The article outlines that in order for innovation to thrive employers require a sense of freedom and creativity. However, the employer must ensure that they stay within the boundaries and confines of the organization. Although I do agree that creativity is an essential element of the innovative process, it can also pose various risks to a business’s reputation and brand if there are no restrictions and boundaries set in place. In my opinion, the most important and successful way to enhance innovation is to create a positive relationship between management and employees, which relates to number 3, “3. Invest your time in the creative nourishment of your workers.” By creating a relationship between employees and managers, this creates a sense of trust and belonging, whereby workers will be more willing to deliver quality work.
ReplyDeleteGreat point. I would have to agree with you, and would argue that number 3 is the one of the most important aspects of the 8 ways to bring innovation into your organization. This is because time is such a valueable thing, especially for someone working in a senior position. If it's evident that senior position members are investing time and energy into you as an employee, this would give you confidence in your job and fuel innovation especially if energy was put towards inducing creative nourishment. Having the confidence to experiment with new ideas lays down the groundwork for creating innovation.

DeleteHi there, great post!
DeleteI really enjoyed the idea your brought up about the article not providing boundaries to its "8 ways." Whenever the topic of innovation in companies gets brought up, especially in an article such as this one that is highlighting how to incorporate innovation into a workplace, a thought always pops up into my mind and I'm not completely sure if I believe it or if it's my mind playing devil's advocate. Any who, this idea is that perhaps too much innovation in the workplace is a bad thing. I do believe that being a little innovative is definitely beneficial, however I don't know if I completely support a company completely shrouded in the idea of innovation for the simple reason that: anything innovative is not a 'sure thing'. While there are instances where a lot of innovation can reap big rewards for a company, there are also times where a company is being too innovative and is playing around with ideas that have no proven track record of success and result in the company's failure.
